Today I caught myself getting so excited about the sunshine and then immediately feeling annoyed and angry that the wind was blowing so strong and loud. (I am not such a fan of wind! 🙂 ) I have to say, my reaction to this mild weather did intrigue me as weather is something really out of my control and I was allowing it, at least in those few moments, to really dictate my mood.
I think this small example can serve as a great metaphor for how many other things outside of our control we allow to have an influence over our lives, whether it be minutes, hours, days, months or years. I urge you to take a moment and think about one or two – perhaps a relationship with a boss, parent or friend, or a current situation you are in – that you are letting dictate your mood and essentially take your own power away from you. Often times, when this is happening, when we are essentially giving away our power, we feel exhausted, upset, and/or clouded in our decision making.
By taking a few moments to acknowledge any external sources that you are allowing to take your power, you are then putting yourself back in the drivers seat and are consciously able to choose just how much, if any, power this situation will continue to pull from you.
This practice will not only empower you but will ground, center and strengthen you. You will begin to see these situations with a new perspective, from a place of strength, and with continued practice will start to view all situations such as your current one from a more steady and balanced place leading to better decision making, actions, and results. This is a practice in harnessing your power. 🙂
