The Fall equinox is one of the few times a year where Nature presents a perfect balance of light and dark and invites us into it’s environment of balance.  Right now, we have an opportunity to pause and mimic Nature, and to allow it to empower us to achieve a balanced state of being.  Life, by its own nature, is filled with ups and downs and is not meant to be static and in balance — but by attuning to the spaces within us that have gotten a bit off track we can help create an equilibrium that encourages a peaceful inner environment which can be our anchor through all the highs and lows life presents.

It’s interesting, at this time of year, especially if you have school-aged children, it seems that life gets busier instead of following the cycle of Nature and slowing down.  It is therefore much easier at this time to “burn the candle at both ends”. Our yang energy – our energy devoted to outward action in the world – can literally burn up our yin reservoir. The yin in our bodies represents our foundation, our inner anchor, helps us sleep, be calm, and have strength throughout the day.  If this gets depleted we can feel anxious, overly-stressed out, and have problems sleeping.  We can also experience more headaches, body aches, and be prone to illness easier.

At the Equinox there is a lot of talk around light and dark.  To me, darkness represents the pieces of myself I may have been ignoring in order to keep up with all of the outward actions I do each day.  I see this time as an invitation to get quiet and pay attention to what my body and heart is trying to communicate to me.  This is a beautiful time to start to settle into a more restful state where you can nourish your yin reservoir and connect back to that pure clarity, wisdom and peace that exists within you.

in Chinese Medicine, the Lungs and Large Intestine are highlighted at this time.  The Lungs represent our connection to Spirit and when in balance and strong is very uplifting to your mental and emotional state.  The Large Intestines representing our capacity to let go of toxins, or denser things, thoughts and emotions in order to make space for a healthier state of being.

If you have been feeling burnt out, depressed or just out of sorts, this is an invitation to nourish your yin reservoir.  Acupuncture and Yoga are two nourishing ways to help align with the season and create more balance, ease of spirit and strength in the body and mind.

If this calls to you, come on in 🙂
